Unix System Administrator

The successful candidate will be working as part of the regional Unix team based in the Aberdeen office, you will be responsible for administering the Technical and Commercial Unix workstations and servers, plus providing support for the storage devices in the EMEA region. This will entail problem management of the Unix and storage infrastructure, applying patches, and performing routine maintenance. In addition, you will also be expected to deal with end users problems, whether regarding their Solaris/Linux workstations or the database/application servers.

Specific responsibilities include;
Monitor and manage daily operations of all infrastructure servers using tools and processes
Manage (prioritize, escalate, and monitor) issues that require support by other internal IT support teams
Provide status updates to local business unit on issues being worked.
Be part of the out of hour's on-call rota.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required;
·Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·Able to communicate with various levels of the user community
·Must be a self-starter with good interpersonal and communication skills.
·Thorough analytical and research approach
·Ability to work effectively across time zones and geography.
·Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
·Basic experience with configuration of GGRE applications and the Veritas Cluster Manager, Volume Manager and NetBackup product ranges.

Desired skills;
·Knowledge of the Solaris operating system, expert diagnostic, troubleshooting and problem solving for hardware, software, and OS.
·Setup, configuration, and problem diagnostics of server/storage hardware including RAID and mirrored disks.
·Knowledge of GGRE application installation, ZEH and FlexLM licensing.
·Knowledge of Linux (RHEL) and video driver configuration.
·Knowledge of server/enterprise tape backup and restore operations using Veritas NetBackup.
·Knowledge of Jumpstart and Kickstart. Understanding of LAN, TCP/IP, DNS. Setup and configuration of Sun and HP-UX hardware including firmware, hardware and software. Knowledge of remote support concepts and tools.

This role will be an initial 6 month contract and the salary is negotiable depending on experience
